It's not very often an Estonian film comes to Toronto, but last week The Singing Revolution was shown at the Carleton Theatre for 1 week only. I must admit it was a bit weird sitting in the theatre hearing so much Estonian all around me. There were also many elder Estonians there as well, no doubt like my parents and uncle, fled their home country back in 1944 under unspeakable obstacles. I also have no doubt their emotions were quite raw, watching the events unfold on the big screen.
The film is quite powerful and inspirational as it chronicles Estonia's history over the last century and it's unique path to freedom.
Here's the trailer of the film (Warning - some disturbing scenes early in the clip).
