The electorate voted clearly for a minority Conservative government.
And now the two left of centre parties will gang up for a power grab, making a deal with the devil (the Bloc) and led by a man who had just run one of the most disastrous election campaigns in election history
Just to be clear here - this will be a left leaning, socialist government during one of our most horrible fiscal times in our history.
This is unforgivable.
Stephane Dion not only gets a reprieve from an execution by his own party, he will becomes the next Prime Minister of Canada. Unbelievable. Jack Layton is thrilled beyond belief as he will be the first NDPer to be in a cabinet. His massive ego gets stroked big time. And the Bloc giggles all the way through the halls of Parliament as they are allowed to make this all happen - a party specifically built to destroy Canada. They are certainly living up to their mandate.
Can these parties legally do this....? Yes.
Is it actually happening...? Yes.
Is it ethical? NO!
Do we believe the electorate really want this? NO!
I am outraged.

Well, to use the same logic .. the majority of the electorate clearly voted for something *other* than a Conservative government .. about 65% of the electorate, to be exact.
Any government, majority or minority, lives and dies based on the confidence of the House of Commons, and by extension, the Canadian electorate. Harper has managed to piss off the majority of the Opposition parties once too often, IMHO, and it's payback time, baby.
I think he seriously overplayed his hand by attempting to cut off federal funding to political parties as part of the financial statement. In the global scheme of things, political funding is chicken feed .. something like 50 million in a 50 or so billion dollar budget .. less than 1%.
I don't fully support what the Liberals and NDP are doing, though .. it looks to be too much of a power grab .. much like Harper tossing out confidence motion after confidence motion earlier in the year, and basically daring the opposition to defeat him. His insistence on an election had nothing, IMHO, to do with the economic situation, and everything to do with wanting to solidify his power in a majority.
My sis had the best comment, though .. she suggested they're all acting like babies, and should just grow the hell up, and learn to work together like grownups.
I've hated Harper's arrogance and approach, starting with his attack ads just as Dion got the Liberal leadership a full year before the election. And yes, the Conservatives have indeed made some real bad choices since the election acting as if they had a majority. It's almost Joe Clarkiesh.
And, yes of course I understand how minority governements work and all the repercussions. I'm not arguing that the coalition is not legal... I *am* arguing that the pillars holding it together will cause more damage than the existing government. I firmly believe that. I suspect you disagree with me on this.
But I will agree on one matter - your sister is brilliant!
To be honest, I think the Liberals and NDP have a lot more to lose than the Conservatives in this situation. Philosophically, I like the idea of a centre-left majority running the show for a while .. my sense of fair play, though, is not comfortable with how it seems to be coming together.
If this coalition goes forward, and then fails fairly quickly, the Liberals and NDP are going to look like idiots, and the Conservatives will milk the whole 'victimhood' .. the big, bad lefties ganging up on the poort, downdrodden Conservatives (yea, right) for all it's worth. And I fear, public sympathy will go right along with it.
That being said .. if a prime minister has lost the confidence o the House of Commons, he's pretty much screwed. It's either another election, or an alternative government, which has happened once before in 1917, when RB Bennett was Prime Minister. And in 1985, the Ontario Liberals and NDP signed a formal accord which allowed David Peterson to become premier.
Anyway .. I still think they're all acting like babies. Maybe a timeout is the best thing for 'em. And send them to bed without supper, too.
