A significant name from my childhood has passed on - Milt Dunnell, the legendary Toronto Star sports writer has died at the ripe age of 102. My god - how many moments of the 20th century has this man witnessed and wrote so eleganlty about... Now THIS was a life.
He's part of a larger group of sport journalists from another era who everyone, anyone read and argued and reflected upon each and every week if you were lucky enough to grow up in the Toronto area in the 60s and 70s. This list includes - George Gross, Frank Orr, Jim Coleman, Scott Young, Jim Hunt, Jim Proudfoot, Trent Frayne. The papers: Toronto Star, Toronto Telegram, Globe & Mail, Toronto Sun... These men, and Dunnell, provided the drama and contextual significance of what was happening on the ice, on the field, in the ring and at the track.
