Pronkssõdur IX

Riots have broken out in Estonia over the removal of the bronze soldier... This story has grown leaps and sounds since my first blog entry back in August...

Watch Russians Rioting in Estonia

Read 600 held, 96 hurt in Estonia riots

The last paragraph is a beaut:
Russia, which has had troubled ties with Estonia since the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union, had said moving the monument was an insult to those who fought against fascism.
Let me get this straight.... German fascism was a bad thing but the occupation was..... what? An ok thing? Talk about the pot calling The kettle black. What about the 'insult' of 50 years of Soviet occupation? What about that insult to the Estonian people?

My questions to Russia:

  • Is Estonia a free nation or not...?
  • Are they allowed to make their own decisions?
  • Is the occupation over or not?
  • Does Estonia owe anything to Russia?
