A couple of weeks ago I took my camera and walked around my neighbourhood, clicking away. I live in an area that is neither rich nor poor, overly Estonian nor Russian. It is a very typical suburb of Tallinn, about a thirty minute walk from the old town.
Most of these pictures are of what looks like "modern" buildings. Except what looks like the downtown and the side-facing brownstone, which look century-old. Is this an optical illusion or is Tallinn really a modern town? Otherwise, your selection of pics transmits a really nice flavour. Thx!
There are actually 4 eras represented in the architecture of Tallinn, revealing the stark complexity of this city and her history. They are: 1) The old town, which represents a time when castles were very much in fashion. 2) Pre-Soviet era, up to 1945 3) Soviet era, 1945-1991 4) Post Soviet era, 1991 to present
Tallin is a very intriguing city in this regard. I will try to add some pictures of these other eras.
