This is sad

I'm always amazed at the emotional complexity of the human being. We are all stuffed with many compelling emotions at varying degrees of depth, size and intensity. Many of these emotions also contrast with one another, and when triggered by a right external trigger, the fun begins...

There is one particular emotion in me that I, strangely and curiously, enjoy picking at. I really like my sadness, as strange as that sounds. I enjoy finding ways to connect with it, and feel good in doing so. Sadness as in melancholy, pathos or a sweet sadness. It's the sadness where you could find yourself smiling, if that makes any sense. There is something very beautiful and sacred in this sadness.

Yeah, I know.. I know .. I'm a strange one. But nevertheless, its true.

Now, just to be clear - I am not talking about depression, grief, pessimism, gloomy, morose or mournful.

This explains much of the movies, music and poetry I've loved over the years. I'm drawn a message of melancholy. Also, explains why I would rather go to these movies alone. I want to experience these feelings without trying to explain it to someone. Also, answers a bit of a mystery for me. I love humour and yet comedy movies are near the bottom of my list. I guess I go to movies to experience sadness not humour.

Among my favourite movies that bring out this sadness for me:

- City Lights (1931)

- Schindler's List (1993)
