Stand down

Well, I went up for my second time doing stand up comedy last night. What a horrible night - lol. There were 9 comedians in total and to be blunt - we all sucked ostrich eggs. Not one of us was funny - not even close. I saw a lot of the same kind of jokes and nothing seemed fresh. I did experiment last night with different deliveries and material so I was not surprised at my outcome. But I was really surprised that the other comedians weren't better as some of them have been doing this much longer than me. Maybe they were trying out new material, too? Now this wasn't a comedy club but upstairs of a pub in downtown Toronto. The crowd was in a bit of a foul mood (probably because they were expecting comedians to actually be funny). I know I'm being cruel in my comments but this is how I honestly feel this morning looking back. Also, I wonder about the difference between a comedy club and a pub for stand up. People come to comedy clubs wanting to laugh - and it might not be the same coming to a regular pub?

Anyways... the beat goes on....

Hey, dude

Well, all I can offer is 'them's the breaks' .. sometimes things go brilliantly, and other times, they don't. Kind of sums up the whole experience of life, in reality.

The big danger is to get too discouraged at a bad night (or a bad lesson) and walk away. Ask yourself whether or not these things feed you .. overall do you feel better for teaching, for doing standup, or whatever? If so, then they're probably worth pursuing.

If, in general, you find yourself having your energy sucked away after being involved in these things, well, maybe your inner spirit is trying to suggest that this may not be the path for you.

Take 'er easy ..
